Don’t Starve Walkthrough Day 1-20 Survival Guide



Don’t Starve is open world survival horror game. The goal in the game is surviving the longest amount of time without dying from starvation or hostile enemies. You may just turn insane too. So, better not let that happen either.


Your first few days in Don’t Starve will be crucial. They will decide how much prepared are you when the winter comes. In this guide, we will specifically talk about these days. If you do well here, you will definitely survive longer. So, let’s not waste any more time and get started.

Don’t Starve Walkthrough Day #1 To Day #20


Day #1
You will always spawn in grassland biome. You will find that everything you need is already close by. Start by collecting lot of grass and saplings. Do this for the full day and half of the dusk time. Collect berries, carrots and flint. However, don’t eat the berries or carrots just yet.


If you collect all these, then you will have enough material for an axe. Build the axe but do not use it right away. You will need it at night. Don’t chop wood with it. Instead hunt rabbits and stuff with it. It is your weapon for now. You will need the food to keep your sanity at a good level.


When dusk finally arrives, do not fret just keep on collecting whatever you can find. When half of the dusk time has passed, chop down a couple of big trees. When night arrives, build yourself a camp fire, cook few carrots and eat them. The night will be over before you know it.


Day #2 – #5
On day 2 keep on collecting the goodies and try to cover more of the map. During day 2-5, your main objective should be to cover a big chunk of the map. Don’t forget hunting the rabbits.


Since you have passed day 1, you can chop down trees during the daytime too. Try to get eight logs in your inventory before the day ends. It is better to avoid spider dens for now as the spiders might overwhelm you. However, there is a way to kill spiders.


Build yourself a camp fire in front of the den. Place a morsel in front of the fire. When dusk comes, a hungry spider will leave the den and run straight at the morsel. Kill it with your axe before the spider eats your morsel. Repeat the process for the other spiders.


After the third spider there will be a delay. During that time, you can feed your fire and yourself. When the night is over, go explore more and collect more stuff.


During your exploration, you will happen to find a lost pig. Give it your berries to get manure from it.


Day #5 – #10
Now is the time to find yourself a good spot to live. Some where near the beefalos is highly recommended. There are several reasons for that:


Ample Manure.
Ample Meat – you will have to kill the beefalos for that.
Safety – Whenever you are threatened by hound, go to your beefalo friends. They will protect you from them. Hounds will leave you and attack the beefalos and they will strike back. Same is the case for MacTusk.
If you have the following items – 4 stacks of grass, 2 stacks of twigs, 1 stack of flint, 1 stack of logs, 1 stack of pine cones, 1 stack of seeds, 1 stack of carrots, 2 stacks of manure, 1 stack of monster meat, 1 stack of silk, 1 stack of gold, 3 stacks of stone and 1 stack of morsel then you will be able to craft 7 turbo farm plots, 6 crock pots, firepit, ice box, winterometer, and other tools to make yourself a base.


Remember to keep yourself sane pick flowers. Pick 12 of them to make yourself a Garland and provide a constant boost to your sanity during the day.


Day #10 – #20
You have your home. From now on its all about preparing for winter. You will need to:


Chop wood a lot, kill spiders, birds. Create bee boxes, stock grass, twings and reeds, kill some tentacles and stock a few spikes as well.
If you have the extra manure grow some grass and berry bushes around your base. They will provide you with enough food during the winter.

Don’t Starve Walkthrough Winter Survival Guide – How To Survive



The hardest part about Don’t Starve is surviving the winter. This is because all the rabbits, your constant supply of morsel have disappeared. Furthermore, the berry bushes have stopped growing berries.


So, what food is available now? Monster meat! However, if not cooked properly the meat can be poisoning, affecting both your mental and physical state. In this guide, we will detail how you can properly cook monster meat and survive the winter on it.


Don’t Starve Walkthrough – How To Survive Winter


First, you need to get yourself a Crockpot. Get your pick axe and your axe and find yourself the following items: one gold nugget, four logs and four rocks. After that, gather up three cut stones, 6 twigs and five charcoal to make the crock pot. To get yourself some charcoal, simply burn a tree.


Equip yourself with log armor and a spear. Go find spider’s den. Preferably take part in one on one battles with the spider. Keep him stunned by bashing him repeatedly. When dealing with multiple spiders, remember to set up traps all it takes is some grass and twigs.


Keep in mind that hitting a single spider will anger other spiders in close vicinity. If things get too much for you to handle, then lead the spiders to a bunch of pigs, if any pigs are close by. They will deal with the problem for you. You can simply run away too.


You can also use healing salve. To make this rock you will need; spider gland, get that from killing a spider and two piles of ash. You can get ash by burning a pinecone. Collect the ashe quickly before the wind blows it away. Use the science machine to make this healing salve. After that you can create this item anytime you desire.


Now that you have monster meat place it in the crock pot with three other food items like berries, carrots and mushrooms. You will get meatballs out of this recipe.


Birds can help you survive the winter by laying down edible eggs for you. However, the first problem is getting a bird. Even before that you need to get a bird cage. To get a bird cage, you will need to have six gold nuggets, two sheets of Papyrus and two seeds. Papyrus is made by combining eight reeds. Reeds are found in the dangerous Swamps. Put on your log armor and head to the swamps.


Do not stick around there to fight anything. Just go in there, collect eight cut reeds and run straight back out of there. Craft the bird cage using the machine.


To get yourself a bird fix yourself up a bird trap with ample amounts of silk. Get some seeds to act as bait for the bird. Set your trap away from the pigs as they have a tendency to eat anything they see. Now wait for the bird to show up.


After catching the bird put it in the newly acquired bird cage. When you feed the bird some meat, any type of meat, it will lay an egg for you. It will lay eggs all throughout the winter.

Don’t Starve Walkthrough – How To Build Self-Sustaining Base



The aim of this guide will be to help you build a self-sustaining base. Where you can find food, safety and all other resources easily.


First for this base you will only require an area with rabbits and beefalos in ample quantity. Furthermore, time management will be of the utmost importance, especially in the starting days. We will tell you what to harvest, when to harvest it and exactly how much you need to harvest.

Day #1
Locate an area with rabbits and beefalos in it. You need to find such a location by day 3 at least. Explore the area and collect any resources you stumble upon. Craft a shovel and start digging grass and twigs.


Besides that, collect berries if you find them. Do not waste time on planting berry bushes. Satisfy your hunger with berries for now. Craft an axe and chop down one large tree. Use the shovel to dig the stomp out. This will get you enough logs for a camp fire at night.


At evening return to your settlement sight and make a fire such that rabbits are at the edge of the light. Place rabbits traps as you can near rabbit holes. Cook some food and eat it. Keep your hunger at around 50 or 80%. Spend the night planting saplings. They don’t require manure to grow unlike grass.


Day #2
Spend the day finding resources. Dig up as much grass and sapling as you can. If you have pick axe find a boulder and collect 12 stones to create a fire pit. This is optional though. Don’t forget to cut the tree and dig out its stump for logs as fire fuel. Lastly, collect just enough food items to last till next day.


In evening return to your prospective base, light a fire, cook your food, eat it and reset all the traps near the rabbit hole. One trap per rabbit hole. Spend the rest of the night planting saplings. Only use log as fuel for your fire. You will need 1 log to last you the night.


If any hounds attack, run to the beefalos. They will take of them hounds. At night, you will need a torch for this to work.


Day #3
Spend this day collecting manure. Furthermore, collect grass, sapling and one more log. Go back to your camp in the evening. Create a camp fire and cook your food. Morsels will do just fine. Refrain from collecting berries and carrots. Reset all your rabbit traps.


Plant as many grass as you can, it will depend on the amount of manure you have. Spend the rest of the night planting saplings. I f a treeguard spawns lead it away from your base and then come back. They are slow and will fall back when you are returning to your base.


Day #4 – #9
By this time, you really should have a fire pit. Spend half your day collecting manure from beefalos and the other half collecting grass and sapling. Chop down tress to keep your log count around five.


In the evening return to your base and reset all your traps. Spend the night planting grass using manure to fertilize it. Furthermore, plant saplings too. Plant 100 saplings and 50 grass during the night. This number is quite doable.


Day #10 – #19
By now, you probably have a self-sustaining base. It grows enough grass and sapling to make traps with, and rabbits are aplenty.


Now you need to make a crock pot. That requires 200 research points, the ability to make cut stones, which require another 100 points and a science machine. To create a science machine; you will need stones and a gold nugget.


The science machine allows you to research items by breaking them down. You will lose the item, but you gain research points. You need 300 research points in total. This means roughly 100 items. Start by researching your excess twigs and grass. Leave enough for making traps. Do not research morsels.


Furthermore, remember to break boulders to collect stones, you will need them to make cut stones which in turn you need to make crock pot.


For crock pot you will need charcoal too. Obtain it by burning down tress with fire. Try to make at least 2-4 crock pots. When you have your crockpot ready, you can make kabobs in it. The recipe is one cooked morsel, and 3 twigs. You just went from eating morsels to eating kabobs.


Day #20 – #29
Take some time and keep things like they are to build up your resources.


Now, your aim is to build a meat effigy. This thing will revive you if you die. This thing can only be acquired if you play as Wilson as it requires beard hair. It also requires cooked meat which you can only get from pigs and beefalos. Find an isolated beefalo and attack it with your spear. Pull away just before it attack and hit it right after it is done attacking you.


Either that or you can find a pig village. Follow the rock paths to locate it. Give morsels to all the pigs in the village to get them to follow you. You can press Ctrl and click on the following pigs to attack them without retaliation.


Once you get the meat, cook it to get cooked meat and create a meat effigy.


Day #30 and onwards
Now that you have a meat effigy it is safe to explore the world. For example, with enough kabobs you can go for a trip around the world. Do whatever you feel like, breed bees, tame spiders, learn new crock pot recipes. Just remember the one golden rule: always have one meat effigy before heading out of your base.
